This delicious smoothie has a high content of coconut milk which contains phosphorus, copper, iron and magnesium. Phosphorus is an essential nutrient that is important for strengthening bones. Copper is a mineral that regulates many functions in the body as well as maintains the flexibility and elasticity of the skin and blood vessels.  Iron is important for energy levels and is one of the most common deficiencies, especially in women.

Magnesium prevents muscle cramps and soreness which makes this smoothie a great post workout snack.  Dates are a natural and healthy sweetener that also provides fibre and several vitamins and minerals. Dates help in fighting constipation, weight gain, heart problems and abdominal cancer.

Bananas also contain fibre as well as folate which is very important for pregnant women or those trying to get pregnant as it prevents birth defects in babies. Cinnamon is also a very potent spice which provides many health benefits such as lowering cholesterol, regulating blood sugar and preventing cancers.   Lastly, cacao powder which gives this smoothie its chocolate taste is a power food packed with antioxidants, minerals and phytochemicals which can treat cardiovascular diseases, high blood pressure and other degenerative diseases.


  • 2 cups low fat coconut milk
  • 5 large pitted Medjool dates, softened
  • 1 banana
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 tbsp cacao powder
  • 2 cups crushed ice


Step 1

Add the coconut milk to the blender

Step 2

Chop the dates and add to the blender. If they are on the harder side you may have to soak them in water for a few hours until they are softened.

Step 3

Blend the dates and coconut milk for a few minutes until the mixture is smooth

Step 4

Add remaining ingredients and blend
